She rolls! Somewhat

April 25th, 2009

Stopped by autozone this morning and picked up some new valve stems for Heidi since the one broke off. The next stop was to the hobby shop on base. Told the guy I need to replace the valve stem, he looked at the tire and said “Um I don’t think this tire is any good anymore”, to which I replied, “Yeah it’s just on a rolling chassis so it’s not going anywhere.” So we start to get the bead popped (which took for ever, apparently her tires are very stretchy) so we can put the new valve in. Then we couldn’t get the bead to seat. Poop. So I asked if they had an old tire that we could throw on. He went to the back and pulled one out and we threw it on. One spot didn’t want to seat so we had to go grab a mallet and give it a few whacks. Now I’ve got a “new” tire on Heidi, although there is one small spot on the rim where it still blows bubbles a little, but it’s not a big deal. I could care less if I have to add air to that tire every few weeks when I have to add air to the others every day or two.

That’s about all for now though. I still need to finish cleaning out the inside, then roll her into the drive way and spray her off inside and out. Then I’ll probably take off the fenders, trunk and hood, put them in the shed or something. Also take the windows out and put them somewhere safe since they are still good. Except for the front, and maybe back. The defroster lines have rusted some. But once that is done I can hopefully get the body off and start removing the rust from the pan, finding out what needs to be replaced, and then put some bed liner on it.
